My Review: Glamping

This past weekend (at time of writing) my best friend and I went camping in style… Glamping! Who knew this was even a thing?!

I was planning a surprise weekend away for my best friend and I, and I was originally planning on booking a room at Atlantica Oak Island Resort. While I was on their site I saw a big banner that said “NEW for 2016! Our exclusive glamping retreat” I must say, I was quite intrigued by this banner. I clicked the box, did a little bit of reading on what exactly this glamping retreat was, and then I booked it!

Here is some information, as well as my personal review on the Glamping Retreat at Atlantica Oak Island;

  • First of all, for those of you that don’t know, Glamping = Glamorous Camping.
  • East Coast Glamping is a new local business is Nova Scotia that offers glamours camping.
  • The price for our one night of Glamping was $250+tax. In my opinion the price was a bit steep, as it was the same price for a room in the Atlantica.
  • Weekend rentals throughout the summer are a minimum two night stay starting in July.
  • Your fee includes a breakfast buffet for two. The breakfast was amaaazing. I do recommend getting to breakfast early, if you want a table outside. However, the workers did a great job of always making sure the food was stocked and fresh.

  • Because we stayed at the Atlantica Oak Islands location we had access to all of their amenities. That included the outdoor pool, indoor pool, hot tub, mini golf, tennis courts, and SUP and kayak rentals.

  • The Stand Up Paddle Boards (SUP) and kayak rentals did have a fee. 30 minute rentals were $15.00 +tax, and 1 hour rentals were $25.00 +tax.

  • The Atlantica had 6 Glamping tents. 5 were together in one section, while the sixth one was in a private location, a little further down (this was the one that I stayed in).

  • Every morning there is a coffee/hot chocolate/tea stand set up for the Glampers to enjoy in the morning from 8:15am-9:00am (this is included). Typically there is a morning fire to go along with this, however there was a fire ban this weekend so there was no fire.

  • Our private tent also had a private fire pit, however, because of the fire ban we were unable to use it.
  • The blankets that were provided on the bed were the COMFIEST blankets I’ve ever used. I felt like a giant marshmallow wrapped up in these blankets. It definetly made getting out of bed the next morning a bit of a task.

All in all Glamping was a great experience, however I don’t think it was worth $250. I would have been perfectly okay with paying $150 for the experience. The East Coast Clamping website offers other camping experiences that aren’t as expensive as the Resort Glamping that are considered Luxury CampingI would definitely like to check out either their Valley or Peggys Cove location, to compare the experience to the Glamping Retreat.
