Pack Your Bags and Don’t Look Back

How many times have you heard people say “experience the world while you’re still young” or, “experience life to the fullest before you establish your career”? I have heard those and many other sayings time after time after time. At first, it was quite annoying, until I finally did what I was told. I developed a love for this beautiful world that we live on. I developed a love for travelling. However, being a travel lover isn’t as easy as it seems. Especially when you’re a student that pays for your own tuition. That’s when I got the brilliant idea to study abroad!

After lots of research and speaking with the Mount’s International Exchange guru, Miss. Paula Berry, I decided this was the right decision. I already pay for school, so why not pay for school in a different country, that way I still get my education, but at the same time I get to travel and discover more of the world.

From my personal experience travelling I have learned a lot. Not only about all of the different cultures around the world, but I have learned a lot about myself. While travelling you will face so many obstacles, and you will probably have bad days. There are days where you don’t like the food, or you can’t speak or understand the foreign language, or you’ll lose your passport or luggage, and the list goes on. However at the same time, you will find food that you never even knew existed, and you will fall in love with it. Or you will learn a new language; you will meet people from the other side of the world and become lifetime friends with them. I can say this because it’s true!

Because of my travelling I now have friends in Australia and everywhere in between, and I keep in contact with them. Because of my travelling I can navigate myself around all of France, Italy and Greece. Because of my travelling I am now inclined to try new foods and activities. Most importantly, because of my travelling I have learned who I am, what I love and whom I love. Because of travelling, all of my spare time is spent planning my next trip. Because of travelling I have learned to not always rely on electronics. Because of traveling I have learned how to live in such an appreciative way.

I encourage you to do the same. Step out of your comfort zone. Learn about yourself, and this great big world we live in. You never know, you may be surprised by what you learn. Take a risk, make the leap and apply for your chance to study abroad. I promise you, you won’t regret it.

  1. This is so true. My school didn’t offer a wide variety of study abroad programs so I just opted to graduate a semester early in the hopes of saving money. A year out of graduation and I still haven’t done the traveling I’ve wanted to. Congrats on taking initiative and going for your dreams! I hope soon I’ll be writing posts from other countries.
